Mediasignage vs InfoBox: built in 2008 or 2024?

400+ businesses trust InfoBox

Mediasignage is US digital signage software from 2008 (Los Angeles) whose underlying architecture was historically built on Adobe Flash and AIR technology. Pricing is in dollars: mediaCLOUD Plus+ $3/screen/month (~€2.75/screen/month) and Enterprise from $19/month. There is no Finnish-language interface or support, and no public Finnish customers are documented.

InfoBox is a Finnish cloud platform founded in 2024 that runs directly on Android TVs and in the browser. The price is €9/screen/month (1–9 screens) or €7/screen/month (10+ screens), billed annually in euros, with 400+ Finnish customers and a GDPR-compliant Google Cloud Finland region. On software price alone, Mediasignage is about three times cheaper (5 screens for a year ~€166 compared with InfoBox's €540), but the comparison is not like for like: the Plus+ plan does not include Power BI, Lounastaja, Sitedrive, SharePoint, Google Drive or Canva integrations, support in Finnish, EU data location or EUR billing.

At a glance
  1. Mediasignage's strengths are its long history (more than 18 years) and low starting price. The mediaCLOUD software is available as a permanent free version for three screens, and the Plus+ plan costs $3/screen/month (~€2.75). Database connectors for SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle are genuine built-in widgets. Hughes Network Systems acts as a North American OEM partner and offers turnkey installations and field service in the US market.

  2. InfoBox's strengths are a modern, continuously updated platform and knowledge of the Finnish market. The cloud digital signage platform runs directly on Android TVs (Sony, Philips, TCL, Vestel, Maxhub, Hisense and other Android TV brands) with no extra device. The interface is in Finnish, customer service is in Finnish and founder Kasper Välimäki can be reached directly. Ready-made integrations with Power BI, Lounastaja, Sitedrive, SharePoint, Google Drive, Canva, Google Slides, Sinebrychoff ContentHub and YouTube are included for every screen. 400+ Finnish customers in eight industries.

  3. On software alone, the price comparison favours Mediasignage by about three times. Annual price for 5 screens: Mediasignage Plus+ about €166 ($3 × 5 × 12 = $180 at ~0.92 USD/EUR), InfoBox €540 (€9 × 5 × 12). The gap grows as the number of screens grows, but Mediasignage's Plus+ plan does not include proof-of-play reporting, branding, permission roles, kiosk mode or POS integrations. All of these are locked to the Enterprise plan (from $19/month plus pricing that scales with the number of screens). On top of that, billing comes from a US company in USD, which brings currency risk and raises a US CLOUD Act question for Finnish data protection.

Side by side

Quick comparison

Mediasignage is in practice a US, dollar-priced cloud digital signage product whose underlying architecture historically dates from the Adobe Flash and Adobe AIR era. InfoBox is a Finnish, euro-priced cloud platform built in 2024 for modern Android TVs and the browser. The differences show up in the pricing model, the range of integrations, data location, language and support, and how technically current the platform is.

Pricing

Price comparison: Mediasignage vs InfoBox

Mediasignage publishes its pricing online, which is part of its strength: a permanent free plan for three screens, Plus+ at a monthly price and Enterprise with a dynamic calculator. Prices are in dollars, and the euro conversions are based on an exchange rate of about 0.92 USD/EUR (May 2026). InfoBox's price is in euros, billed annually, and every integration is included as standard at no extra cost. Mediasignage's lower list price hides the fact that the Plus+ plan does not include proof-of-play reporting, permission roles, branding, kiosk mode or the integrations the Finnish market relies on (Power BI, Lounastaja, Sitedrive). These are locked to the Enterprise plan, whose real price depends on the number of screens and requires a separate quote.

Mediasignage

Plus+ from ~€2.75/screen/month (billed in USD)

  • mediaCLOUD FREE: $0, 3 screens forever, 1 GB of storage. Does not include branding, proof-of-play reporting, XML/JSON loaders, interactive content, kiosk mode, animation, remote touch, smart components or a dashboard view
  • mediaCLOUD Plus+: $3/screen/month (~€2.75), unlimited screens, 3 GB of storage. Includes scheduling, label-q scheduling, an XML loader, playlists and a timeline, scene templates and animation templates, QR codes and touch components. Does not include proof-of-play reporting, branding, permission roles, remote touch or POS integration
  • mediaCLOUD Enterprise: from $19/month (~€17.50), unlimited screens + unlimited sub-accounts, 25 GB of storage. Every feature unlocked: branding, proof-of-play reporting, permission roles, kiosk mode, remote touch, SignDashboard
  • Example with 5 screens for 1 year: Plus+ 5 × $3 × 12 = $180 (~€166). 3 years: $540 (~€497)
  • Example with 25 screens for 1 year: Plus+ 25 × $3 × 12 = $900 (~€828). 3 years: $2,700 (~€2,484)
  • Pricing through the Hughes OEM branch (a US channel partner) is not public. Hughes packages include its own hardware (HS860, HS1100) and field installation, but these are not available in the Finnish market
  • Currency risk: if the USD weakens against the EUR, the price rises from a Finnish customer's point of view. If the USD strengthens, the price falls

Features

Point by point

Underlying architecture and technical age

Mediasignage

Mediasignage's SignageStudio interface was originally built as an Adobe AIR desktop app and an Adobe Flash Player browser interface. Adobe ended official support for Flash Player on 31.12.2020, and Adobe AIR was handed over to HARMAN in 2019. Mediasignage's public FAQ page (digitalsignage.com/_html/_faq.html) still recommends the Flash Player 10 plug-in and Windows XP/Vista/7. HTML5 SignageStudio Lite is available as open source on GitHub, and the server side is still being updated (server 5.23 and Player 8.26 were released in January 2026 in the Hughes OEM branch), so the product has not been abandoned. In practice, though, the old architecture still shows in its public communication and documentation.

InfoBox

InfoBox was built in 2024 on a modern technology foundation: a TypeScript-based cloud Platform (browser) and an Android TV app. The interface does not depend on Adobe technology or discontinued third-party plug-ins. Updates are released continuously, and the screen app updates automatically in the background. Modern Android TV models (Sony, Philips, TCL, Vestel, Maxhub, Hisense and others) run InfoBox directly with no extra device.

Interface and language

Mediasignage

Mediasignage's interface is in English. The site has documentation in French on an old URL structure, but none in Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian or Danish. The interface is functionally broad: more than 90 components (clock, calendar, weather, RSS, social media feeds, Google Sheets, database connectors). The visual style is traditional, and much of the documentation deals with Adobe-era settings.

InfoBox

InfoBox's interface is in Finnish (and in English when needed). It is designed to be as simple as possible, so users can get started within 15 minutes of their first login. The cloud platform runs in the browser and the screen app runs on Android TV. The public Help Center at help.infoboxi.com helps staff find answers on their own.

Integrations and content sources

Mediasignage

Mediasignage has its own widget-style components for a clock, calendar, weather, news feeds, social media streams (Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook), a Google Sheets connector and databases (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, ODBC). Generic JSON/XML loaders let you bring in your own data, if you have the resources to build the connection yourself. Mediasignage lacks named connections to Power BI, Lounastaja, Sitedrive, SharePoint, Google Drive, Canva and YouTube. The database connectors are a genuine advantage for a small technical user who wants to build data-driven views themselves.

InfoBox

InfoBox has ready-made, named integrations with Power BI views, Lounastaja (lunch menus of Finnish restaurants), Sitedrive (construction site schedules), SharePoint, Google Drive, Canva, Google Slides, Sinebrychoff ContentHub and YouTube. Every integration is included as standard, with no extra fee or separate implementation project. Plus any website can be shown via URL.

Security and data location

Mediasignage

Mediasignage's mediaCLOUD runs in the AWS cloud, but the exact region is not published. By default it is in the US (us-east-1 or us-west-1), which puts customer data under US law, including the CLOUD Act. There is no publicly documented EU or Finland region. Business customers with strict GDPR requirements or a need to keep data within the EU have to confirm this separately.

InfoBox

InfoBox's data is stored in Google Cloud's Finland region (europe-north1, Hamina). This is publicly stated and needs no separate data processing agreement under GDPR. For a Finnish company that wants to keep its digital signage data in Finland, or at least in the EU, the choice is clear.

Contract model and cancellation

Mediasignage

Mediasignage Plus+ is billed monthly and can be cancelled at any time. For Enterprise accounts, however, TrustPilot reviews report that customers have to pay to get the account deactivated. Pricing is in dollars, and the currency risk passes to the customer: USD/EUR exchange rate swings affect the real annual cost in euros.

InfoBox

InfoBox is an annual contract with no long commitment. You can change the number of screens at the end of the year. Billing is in euros, annually in advance. No hidden lock-ins, no currency risk, no invoice from a US company that requires reverse-charge VAT handling.

Support, documentation and accessibility

Mediasignage

Mediasignage's documentation center at digitalsignage.com/digital_signage/docs/ is in English and reasonably well structured. Support channels are email and the US number +1 877-344-7446. Support hours and service level agreements (SLAs) are not published. Because of the US time zone, a Finnish customer's daytime support question gets an answer in the Finnish afternoon or evening. The company does not publish customer stories: FeaturedCustomers states “No Case Studies Yet” despite more than 18 years in business.

InfoBox

InfoBox's support is in Finnish by email and chat during Finnish office hours. The public Help Center (help.infoboxi.com) helps staff learn on their own. Founder Kasper Välimäki handles the hardest cases himself at kasper@infoboxi.com. Customer stories and references are publicly available in the site's Case Studies section.

Honest assessment

Where Mediasignage is the better choice

Mediasignage has genuine strengths that are worth acknowledging honestly. Every piece of software has its core use cases, and Mediasignage has done this work in the US market for 18 years.

  • A long history. More than 18 years in business is a significant sign of staying power. InfoBox has operated since 2024, which is longer than many SaaS startups, but clearly shorter than Mediasignage. For customers who weigh vendor longevity as a risk measure, this is a genuine advantage.
  • A permanent free plan for three screens. No credit card, no time limit. In practice this is a broader free offer than, for example, Yodeck's one-screen free version and much less restrictive than InfoBox's 14-day trial. A good starting point if you want to try digital signage as a first step for a small restaurant or shop.
  • A low monthly list price. Plus+ at $3/screen/month is about a third of InfoBox's €9 for 1–9 screens. At large volumes the difference is significant, if basic use is enough and you don't need Power BI, Lounastaja, Sitedrive or proof-of-play reporting.
  • Database connectors as first-class widgets. In Mediasignage, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle and ODBC are built-in components. A small technical team can build data-driven views directly without an intermediate tool such as Power BI. In InfoBox, data typically comes in through Power BI or another BI tool.
  • Open-source SignageStudio Lite on GitHub. For customers who value software transparency and an auditable supply chain, being able to inspect the code is a genuine advantage. InfoBox is closed source.
  • Broad operating system support. Tizen, webOS, Chrome OS, several Linux distributions and Raspberry Pi 3/4/5 are supported by Mediasignage's SignagePlayer. If you already have Samsung Tizen or LG webOS displays, Mediasignage can run on them natively. InfoBox favours Android TV and does not support Tizen or webOS with a native app.
  • A reseller and multi-account model. The Enterprise plan supports an unlimited number of sub-accounts, which is a genuine reselling opportunity. Aimed at channel partners and multi-location chains in the US market.
Choosing

Which one is right for you

Choose Mediasignage if

Mediasignage is a natural choice in certain situations. See whether yours is one of them.

  • You have no more than three screens and want to start completely free with no time limit
  • You operate in the US market or have a multinational organisation where the US is the most important location
  • You have a technical team that wants to write SQL queries straight to the screen without an intermediate BI tool
  • You already have Samsung Tizen or LG webOS commercial displays that you want to run with a native app, with no separate Android device
  • You are looking for a white-label solution for your own customers, and the Enterprise plan's unlimited number of sub-accounts matters to you
  • You accept USD billing and having your data in an AWS US region
  • A Finnish-language interface, customer service in Finnish or EU data location are not requirements for you
  • You don't need Power BI, Lounastaja, Sitedrive, SharePoint, Google Drive or Canva integrations
Recommended

Choose InfoBox if

InfoBox is a natural choice for most Finnish SMEs and organisations.

  • You operate in Finland and value a Finnish-language interface and customer service in Finnish
  • You want your data to stay within the EU (Finland, or at least europe-north1 / Hamina)
  • You need ready-made integrations with Power BI, Lounastaja, Sitedrive, SharePoint, Google Drive, Canva, Google Slides, Sinebrychoff ContentHub or YouTube, and don't want to build them yourself
  • The age of the interface technology matters to you: you want a platform built for modern Android TVs, not one that relies on discontinued technologies such as Adobe Flash
  • You want billing in euros and a stable annual price with no currency risk
  • You value being able to reach the founder: Kasper Välimäki handles the hardest cases himself
  • You need 1–50 digital signage screens and want a pricing model where every feature is included for every screen
  • You want a turnkey package: display leasing with a Hisense or Maxhub display, InfoBox software and pre-installation from €24/screen/month (36 months via Grenke)
Switching

How to switch from Mediasignage to InfoBox

Mediasignage's Plus+ plan is billed monthly and can be cancelled at any time, so moving to InfoBox doesn't require waiting out a long contract. For Enterprise accounts, based on TrustPilot reviews, it is worth setting aside time to sort out the cancellation. You can start InfoBox's 14-day trial side by side and move your screens only once you are convinced.

  1. 1Check your Mediasignage subscription type: Plus+ is billed monthly and can be cancelled at any time, while Enterprise may require some work to cancel.
  2. 2Sign up for the 14-day free InfoBox trial at infoboxi.com with no credit card. You get immediate access to the Platform dashboard.
  3. 3Work out how your displays will connect to InfoBox. Android TVs (Sony, Philips, TCL, Vestel, Maxhub, Hisense, Xiaomi, Nokia) run InfoBox directly with no extra device. For LG webOS or Samsung Tizen consumer TVs and older TVs, your own Android tablet, Fire TV, a generic Android stick or the €59 InfoBox Basic stick in the HDMI port will do. If you have Samsung Tizen commercial displays currently running Mediasignage's native app, you can connect an Android device to them through the HDMI port.
  4. 4Export your most important content from Mediasignage to your own computer: images, videos and PDFs. You can usually get the original files from SignageStudio's download points. You rebuild schedules, playlists and scenes in InfoBox, because the file formats are not compatible.
  5. 5Upload your content to InfoBox and connect the ready-made integrations: Power BI, Lounastaja (if you are a restaurant), Sitedrive (if you are in construction), SharePoint, Google Drive, Canva, Google Slides, Sinebrychoff ContentHub and YouTube. This is usually faster than rolling out a new CMS, because the integrations are ready and need no implementation work of your own.
  6. 6Run both side by side for two weeks: keep the Mediasignage subscription active on your existing screens and try InfoBox on a few new screens. Compare usability, how fast updates go through and total cost.
  7. 7Once you are convinced, cancel your Mediasignage Plus+ subscription at the end of the following month and move all screens to InfoBox. If you have an Enterprise account, plan the cancellation carefully based on the TrustPilot reviews.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mediasignage cheaper than InfoBox?+

Yes, on the software list price alone, about three times cheaper. Mediasignage Plus+ costs $3/screen/month (~€2.75) and InfoBox €9/screen/month for 1–9 screens. Example with 5 screens for a year: Mediasignage Plus+ about €166 (5 × $3 × 12 = $180), InfoBox €540 (5 × €9 × 12). The price gap narrows once you take into account the limits of the Mediasignage Plus+ plan: it does not include proof-of-play reporting, permission roles, branding, kiosk mode or the integrations the Finnish market relies on (Power BI, Lounastaja, Sitedrive). If you need these, you have to move to the Enterprise plan, whose price depends on the number of screens and is quote-based. On top of that, Mediasignage's billing comes from a US company in USD, which brings currency risk and requires reverse-charge VAT handling for a Finnish company.

Why doesn't Mediasignage's domain mediasignage.com open?+

The brand-name domain mediasignage.com returns a TLS certificate error (ERR_TLS_CERT_ALTNAME_INVALID), meaning the site's SSL certificate covers a different domain. The company has left this unresolved, because its actual website runs at digitalsignage.com. A Finnish customer searching for Mediasignage by its brand name first lands on a browser security warning. This is carelessness in the company's own communication, not a sign that the software is being discontinued, as the product itself is still updated in the Hughes OEM branch.

Does Mediasignage still use Adobe Flash?+

Its public FAQ page digitalsignage.com/_html/_faq.html still recommends Flash Player 10 and Adobe AIR. Official support for Adobe Flash ended on 31.12.2020, and all major browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) blocked Flash content in January 2021. Mediasignage has released HTML5 SignageStudio Lite as open source on GitHub, and the latest server and Player versions are from January 2026, so the product has not been abandoned. In practice, though, the original Flash and AIR architecture still shows in the public documentation and on the FAQ page, which still recommends Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10. For a Finnish customer, this is a clear sign that the platform's architecture has not been modernised as determinedly as newer SaaS products.

Does Mediasignage have Finnish customers?+

Not according to public sources. Mediasignage does not mention any Finnish customers on its website, and its FeaturedCustomers profile says “No Case Studies Yet” despite 18+ years in business. It names US references (Hershey's, McDonald's, Subway, 50+ colleges and universities), but these are North American. There is no Finnish-language customer service or interface, and no data location in Finland.

Where is Mediasignage's data stored?+

Mediasignage's mediaCLOUD runs in the AWS cloud, but the exact region is not published on the company's website. By default it is in the US (us-east-1 or us-west-1), which puts customer data under US law, including the CLOUD Act. InfoBox's data is stored in Google Cloud's Finland region (europe-north1, Hamina), publicly stated and GDPR compliant.

Does Mediasignage have Power BI, Lounastaja or Sitedrive integrations?+

No. Mediasignage's widget range includes a Google Sheets connector, social media feeds (Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook), weather widgets, RSS feeds and database connectors (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle). Showing a Power BI view, Lounastaja's lunch menus for Finnish restaurants or Sitedrive's construction site schedules is not part of the range. You can build your own connections with the generic JSON/XML loaders, but that requires your own technical implementation. In InfoBox, all of these integrations are included as standard, ready to use.

Is it easy to cancel a Mediasignage subscription?+

Monthly billing on the Plus+ plan can be cancelled at any time, according to its pricing page. For Enterprise accounts, TrustPilot reviews report that customers have to pay to get the account deactivated. As a Finnish customer, make sure you keep copies of all content on your own computer before ending the contract, because exporting your own data from a US cloud platform is not always as straightforward as from an EU-based service.

Can I switch from Mediasignage to InfoBox?+

Yes. Moving from the Plus+ plan is straightforward, because the contract is billed monthly and can be cancelled. You can run InfoBox's 14-day free trial with no credit card side by side and move your screens once you are convinced. In practice, your Android TVs work with InfoBox directly, and for other TVs the €59 InfoBox Basic stick or your own Android device will do. You can export content from Mediasignage's SignageStudio download points to your own computer. You rebuild playlists and scenes in InfoBox, but this is typically faster than rolling out a new CMS, because the ready-made integrations are included in the price.
