iDiD vs InfoBox: from a reseller or the developer?

Updated 20.10.202610 min readKasper VälimäkiKasper Välimäki

400+ businesses trust InfoBox

iDiD and InfoBox are both Finnish cloud-based digital signage platforms. The biggest structural difference is how you buy them. iDiD is bought through a reseller, so the price and what the delivery includes (installation, training, any display hardware) depend on the reseller. InfoBox is developed and sold by the same Finnish company, so you buy directly from the developer with no middleman: prices are public online, software starts at €7/screen/month and onboarding is included in the price. iDiD is a self-service platform whose service includes ongoing training sessions and a public support site.

The InfoBox Platform is built to be so simple that most people learn it in a few minutes without any training. InfoBox also offers turnkey display leasing (Hisense or Maxhub display + software + pre-installation) from €24/screen/month on a 36-month Grenke lease. The software comes with a 14-day free trial.

The choice comes down to whether you want the system as a reseller's service package or directly from the developer at a transparent price.

At a glance
  1. iDiD is the best-known digital signage system in Finland, used by municipalities and large organisations as well as many smaller businesses. It is bought through a reseller, and what the delivery includes varies by reseller.

  2. InfoBox is developed and sold by the same company, so you buy directly from the developer with no middleman. The Platform is deliberately simple, and most customers learn it in a few minutes. Onboarding (remote or on site) is included in the price, and installation is available for a small extra fee.

  3. InfoBox pricing from €7/screen/month is public online, and the 14-day free trial starts without a sales process. iDiD does not publish its own price list, although some resellers show their prices.

Side by side

Quick comparison

Both are Finnish and both deliver cloud-based digital signage management. The main differences are in the buying model, pricing transparency and getting started.

Pricing

Price comparison: iDiD vs InfoBox

iDiD does not publish its own price list. The price comes from the reseller's quote. Some resellers publish their prices online, most do not. The quote depends on the number of screens, the scope of the service, installation and any display hardware. InfoBox publishes its price directly on its website, and displays are not included: most customers use TVs they already have.

iDiD

Features

Point by point

Getting started

iDiD

Delivered through a reseller, and the scope of the delivery varies by reseller. The system itself is built for self-service: you can create content and templates yourself, and the service includes ongoing basic training (twice a week) and advanced training (twice a month).

InfoBox

You sign up online, upload your content and connect a screen with the app. Your first screen is live in 15 minutes. Onboarding (remote or on site, agreed per customer) is included in the software price. Most customers don't need training, though, because the Platform is deliberately built to be learned in a few minutes.

Hardware options

iDiD

The software runs on Linux-based media players, on the built-in SoC operating systems of many professional displays, or for basic content directly in a browser. The reseller's offer can also include the displays themselves (TVs, touch screens) on a turnkey basis.

InfoBox

InfoBox is pure software. It runs on any Android device the customer already has (Android TV, stick, tablet). Optionally there is the InfoBox Basic stick for a one-off €59. The displays themselves are the customer's own or bought separately, and most customers start with the TVs they already have.

Creating and updating content

iDiD

Browser-based management and ready-made content templates that the customer can create. Role levels (updater, artist, template creator) mean a basic user only updates the text or image in a ready template. Unlimited user accounts are included in the price.

InfoBox

Browser-based management. You upload images, videos, PDFs and website URLs directly. Canva and Google Slides content syncs automatically, and YouTube, Power BI, Sinebrychoff ContentHub, Lounastaja, SharePoint, Google Drive and Sitedrive are shown from a web address. Unlimited users are included in the price.

Scheduling and targeting

iDiD

Precise scheduling by day, time and screen. Content can be distributed hierarchically: organisation-wide announcements to every screen and local content only to selected locations.

InfoBox

Scheduling by day, time and date range. Content rotates at the frequency you choose and changes automatically on schedule. With playlists you send shared content to every screen and local content only to selected screens.

Remote management and monitoring

iDiD

Browser-based management for many screens. The players use a hardened Linux system with automatic security updates, and connections only open from the player towards the server, which fits corporate firewall policies.

InfoBox

One dashboard for every screen. Real-time online/offline status, remote diagnostics and content updates without a site visit.

Support and training

iDiD

Support and documentation are a core part of iDiD. Support in Finnish, Swedish and English: phone on weekdays, chat and support tickets. Ongoing basic and advanced training is included in the service with no separate project. The reseller can also provide installation and on-site setup.

InfoBox

Onboarding (remote or on site, agreed per customer) is included in the software price. Installation is available for a small extra fee if you want it. Daily support by email and chat, with guides online. Most customers don't need training, because the Platform is deliberately simple. Founder Kasper Välimäki handles the hardest cases himself at kasper@infoboxi.com.

Integrations

iDiD

A wide range of integrations is included in the price. There is also an open API for managing content and status data, plus SSO sign-in (e.g. Azure AD).

InfoBox

Ready-made integrations include Power BI, Canva, Google Slides, SharePoint, Google Drive, Lounastaja (lunch menus), Sitedrive (construction sites), Sinebrychoff ContentHub and YouTube, and many more, with new ones released all the time. There is also an API, SSO sign-in and the option to show any website by its URL.

Contract model

iDiD

The contract is made with the reseller, and its content varies by reseller. Usually a service contract covering the software, services and updates.

InfoBox

Billed annually with no long commitments. You can start with one screen, add screens at any time and end the subscription at the end of the year.

Documentation and self-service

iDiD

iDiD has a public support site at tuki.idid.fi, with guides in Finnish, Swedish and English. Content templates and user management are designed for self-service.

InfoBox

InfoBox has a public Help Center at help.infoboxi.com in Finnish, English and Swedish. It has articles, guides and frequently asked questions that customers can check themselves at any time. This fits the Platform's approach: when something is unclear, the answer is in your browser.

Honest assessment

Where iDiD is the better choice

iDiD has been developing its system for over a decade and is the strongest player in the Finnish market in many respects. In some situations it is clearly a better choice than InfoBox.

  • Creating content in the system with ready-made templates: in iDiD, content is created in ready templates directly in the software, and role levels (updater, artist, template creator) limit what each user can edit. A basic user only updates the text or image in a ready template, with no risk of breaking the brand look. In InfoBox, content is not created in the software but brought in from your own tools (e.g. Canva or PowerPoint).
  • Emergency features: emergency messages can be triggered from the dashboard, through the API or by data from an external system (e.g. an alarm integration).
  • IT readiness: redundant Finnish data centres, hardened Linux players with automatic security updates and outbound-only connections that fit strict firewall policies.
  • Hardware flexibility on professional displays: iDiD can be installed on the built-in SoC operating systems of many professional displays without a separate player, and basic content also works in a browser.
  • Turnkey delivery from a reseller: displays, installation and training can be included in the same offer, and depending on the reseller also with lease financing. An established position in the Finnish public sector, especially in municipalities.
Choosing

Which one is right for you

Choose iDiD if

iDiD is a natural choice when you need a broad system and a local supplier.

  • Your organisation has many users who need different access levels and ready-made content templates
  • You need emergency features or an integration with alarm systems
  • You want to buy everything from a reseller in one go: software, installation, training and possibly displays
  • You use professional displays and want to use their built-in SoC operating systems without separate players
  • Your procurement process favours an established supplier and local service
Recommended

Choose InfoBox if

InfoBox is a natural choice when you want a simple platform you can learn yourself, with onboarding or installation help if you need it.

  • You want to deal directly with the developer: the same company builds the product, sells it and provides support
  • You want a product you can learn in a few minutes without training
  • You value onboarding (remote or on site) being included in the software price rather than sold as an extra service
  • You want to see prices straight away and start a trial without a sales process
  • You already have TVs or plan to buy displays separately (e.g. from a local store), and you don't want to pay for them through a service contract
  • You want a turnkey solution at a transparent monthly price: InfoBox now also offers display leasing (Hisense or Maxhub display, software and pre-installation in one package from €24/screen/month, 36-month lease through Grenke)
  • 1–50 screens covers your current needs (restaurants, shops, bars, construction sites, offices, lunch restaurants, pharmacies, furniture stores)
  • You value annual billing without long commitments
  • You need ready-made integrations, for example YouTube, Power BI, Canva, Google Slides, Sinebrychoff ContentHub, Lounastaja or Google Drive
Switching

How to switch from iDiD to InfoBox

Your iDiD contract may run until further notice. You can still start trying InfoBox side by side on one screen before making a final decision.

  1. 1Sign up for the 14-day free trial at infoboxi.com, no credit card needed.
  2. 2Gather your current content from iDiD: images, videos, schedules and integration sources (e.g. Power BI dashboards).
  3. 3Upload the content to InfoBox: images, videos, PDFs and website URLs. Connect the ready-made integrations.
  4. 4Connect one screen with the InfoBox app (Android TV, stick or tablet). Alternatively, order a pre-configured InfoBox Basic stick for €59.
  5. 5Run both side by side: keep iDiD on your other screens and compare ease of use, content and total cost for a couple of weeks.
  6. 6Once the result is clear, give notice on your iDiD contract under its terms and move the rest of your screens to InfoBox.

Frequently asked questions

Is iDiD cheaper than InfoBox?+

iDiD does not publish its own price list, and the price comes from the reseller's quote, so a direct comparison needs a quote. In practice the software share is usually €20–40 per screen per month, depending on the reseller and configuration. If the quote includes installation, training or displays, the total price rises accordingly. InfoBox starts at €7/screen/month, the price is public, and displays are not included.

Where can I buy iDiD?+

iDiD is sold through a reseller network, and what the delivery includes (installation, training, any displays) depends on the reseller. InfoBox is sold by its developer: you sign up online, prices are public and onboarding is included in the software price.

Is the display (TV) included in the price?+

The InfoBox price does not include the display. Most customers use TVs they already have or buy displays separately from a local store. A reseller's iDiD offer, on the other hand, can include the display itself (a TV or touch screen) as a turnkey delivery. If you want a turnkey delivery, iDiD is a natural choice, and so is the InfoBox leasing package, where the display and software come in one monthly price.

Can I switch from iDiD to InfoBox mid-contract?+

You can start the InfoBox 14-day free trial at any point, even while your iDiD contract is active. Running the two systems side by side on one screen gives you a realistic comparison before you commit. How your iDiD contract ends is set by its own terms.

Does InfoBox offer onboarding and installation like iDiD?+

Yes. Onboarding is included in the software price and can be done remotely or on site, agreed per customer. Installation is available for a small extra fee if you want it. Most customers find, though, that the Platform takes a few minutes to learn, so separate training is usually not needed. Email support@infoboxi.com and we'll talk through what you need.

Does InfoBox support Power BI dashboards?+

Yes. InfoBox shows Power BI dashboards, Canva designs, Google Slides presentations, SharePoint folders, Google Drive folders, Lounastaja lunch menus, Sitedrive schedules, Sinebrychoff ContentHub content and YouTube videos. The Canva and Google Slides integrations update automatically in the background. These are examples: there are many more integrations, and new ones are released all the time. An API and SSO sign-in are also available.

Do Finnish municipalities use InfoBox?+

Most Finnish municipalities use iDiD, which is well established in public-sector procurement. iDiD also has many small customers. InfoBox suits municipalities for example for individual screens (a library, a swimming hall, a service point) without a full procurement process. Annual billing and public pricing make smaller decisions easier.

Is the data stored in Finland?+

Yes. InfoBox data is in Google Cloud's Finland region. We are GDPR compliant, data is not transferred outside the EU and no separate data processing agreement is needed. iDiD's servers are also in Finland, and its infrastructure is spread across at least two data centres.

Do I need a separate device for InfoBox?+

Not necessarily. InfoBox runs on any Android device the customer already has: an Android TV, stick or tablet. If you want a pre-configured device, the InfoBox Basic stick costs a one-off €59 and ships free within Finland.

Can I get InfoBox as a turnkey package, like iDiD resellers offer?+

Yes. InfoBox now also offers display leasing, where a Hisense or Maxhub display (32–100 inches), InfoBox software, pre-installation and delivery are included in one monthly price from €24/screen/month. The lease runs for 36 months through Grenke. At the end of the contract you can buy out the display for €50 or renew the contract and swap the display for a new one. See the packages at infoboxi.com/leasing.
